Dave Murphy

Dave Murphy is a woodwinds player and music educator based in Southern New England. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Univeristy of Rhode Island in 2014 with a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance. While there he studied with several renowned musicians of the area including Jared Sims, David Zinno, and Eric Hofbauer. Dave has also studied with the likes of Greg Takemoto, Greg Abate, and Ian Greitzer, with whom he studied classical saxophone and clarinet.

As a member of the URI Jazz band, Dave played 2nd alto at the Newport Jazz Festival in 2013 opening up for saxophonist Joshua Redman. He played the festival again in 2014, this time as 1st tenor.

Dave Murphy has played and recorded with several bands and artists throughout the southern New England region including Swing Lane, Sauce, The Free Funk All-Stars, Kim Trusty, Tish Adams, Take it to the Bridge, Bittersweet Band, Joe Potenza, The Seth Burkhart 4, and The Alchemystics, as well leading his own group, Baba Yaga. He is also an active pit orchestra musician having played in several high school and college productions.

Dave Murphy is an active educator, currently teaching private and group lessons throughout Rhode Island and Southern Massachusetts.
